The journey we want our students to take is one of development and enjoyment, KS3’s curriculum allows for this. In year 7 we will focus on skill development in each sport and applying it to different sporting scenarios and understanding why we need that skill. We will put students in set groups, so they receive the right diet from their curriculum.
In year 8 they will apply the skills learned into conditioned games to learn how to use the skill before moving on Year 9 where they will learn through playing and have game-based lessons.
We begin to introduce theory-based themes from Year 7 to help support students in KS4.
In Key Stage 4 we are moving into the classroom as well as the playing field. We have two options in GCSE PE and BTEC sport. GCSE PE is made up of two theory papers worth 30% each. Performance in 3 sports which are worth 10% each and coursework that is worth 10%. BTEC sport is made up of 3 components. 2 coursework components and one exam component. This can be graded as a pass, merit or distinction.
