Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE)
Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education is a school subject through which pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to manage their lives, now and in the future. It helps children and young people to stay healthy and safe, while preparing them to make the most of life and work. When taught well, PSHE education also helps pupils to achieve their academic potential. We use the PSHE Association Programme of Study which can be accessed via the link below:

This Programme of Study is based on three core themes which are taught by the school teaching staff for one hour a fortnight. The three core themes are:
- Health and Wellbeing
- Reletionships
- Living in the Wider World
The topics taught in each specific "core theme" are available in the curriculum area of the school website - Subjects/Blessed Hugh Faringdon Catholic School.
As part of the PSHE programme, Blessed Hugh Faringdon School are using the "TenTen Resources‘ Life to the Full" to deliver our RSE programme. This programme is approved for use in Catholic Schools and is the RSE programme of choice.
What is Life to the Full?
It’s a programme in Relationships Education based on the Department of Education guidance which became statutory from September 2020. This programme is rooted in a Christian understanding of the human person, based on "A Model Catholic RSE Curriculum" provided by the Catholic Education Service.

At key stage 3 students build on the knowledge and understanding, skills, attributes and values they have acquired and developed during the primary phase. PSHE education acknowledges and addresses the changes that young people experience, beginning with transition to secondary school, the challenges of adolescence and their increasing independence. It teaches the knowledge and skills which will equip them for the opportunities and challenges of life. Students learn to manage diverse relationships, their online lives, and the increasing influence of peers and the media.
At key stage 4 students deepen knowledge and understanding, extend and rehearse skills, and further explore attitudes, values and attributes acquired during key stage 3. PSHE education reflects the fact that students are moving towards an independent role in adult life, taking on greater responsibility for themselves and others.
