BTEC Enterprise
We aim to develop our studentsā understanding of various Enterprise concepts, developing our students into the future businesspeople of tomorrow. We look at how a business is created, allow students to become entrepreneurs, and take a dip into the world of finance. Students explore three components over a 2 years course supported by research, coursework, creating a micro enterprise idea and an exam.
As a department, our intent is to ensure that our curriculum provides students with the effective opportunities to:
- enjoy a knowledge-rich curriculum and explore the best that has been said and done in the field of enterprise
- research relevant businesses locally and nationally in the UK
- allow our students to meet with business owners to deepen their own understanding of the curriculum
- create their own micro enterprise and build confidence in presenting their ideas to an audience
- learn about many different financial methods used in business that help SMEs ensure success against larger competitors
- provide our students with an array of transferable knowledge which will aid them in their further learning, employment or apprenticeships through delivering presentation, written reports and self-review
The Enterprise curriculum is underpinned by the following key business concepts and themes. These concepts/themes are revisited in each unit in order for students to connect prior learning with new:
- entrepreneurship
- purpose of Enterprise
- plan for a micro-enterprise activity
- pitch a micro-enterprise activity
- review own pitch for a micro-enterprise activity
- characteristics of enterprises
- market research
- investigate the factors that contribute to the success of an enterprise

Key Stage 4 - Years 10 & 11
The aim of our BTEC curriculum is to introduce and build students enterprise knowledge to ensure success for everyone on the Level 1 / 2 course through a range of practical and theoretical opportunities. Students who achieve a level 1 or 2 can go on to study level 3 at A-level or use their skills in the world of work.
KS4 Objectives:
This course will give you the opportunity to develop knowledge and technical skills in a practical learning environment
Students will also develop key skills, such as problem solving, research, decision making, innovation, project management, planning and communication.
Everyone taking this qualification will study three components, covering the following content areas:
- exploring enterprises, including understanding of enterprise and entrepreneurs, how market research helps enterprises to meet customer needs and understand competitors, and how internal and external factors affect decisions made by enterprises
- planning and pitching a micro-enterprise, including generating ideas, creating a business plan and culminating in a business pitch and review.
- understanding and application of knowledge of how SMEs promote and finance their business
