- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- The guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit, (provided you are not also entitled to Working Tax Credit) and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190, as assessed by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs

If you think your child is entitled to free school meals, you will need fill in an application form and pass to your child’s school with documentary evidence supporting your claim.
See further information and a downloadable application form below.
Free School Meal Reimbursement
Please contact your child’s school if you feel that you are entitled to a reimbursement i.e. if you have paid for any school meals during your period of entitlement to Income Support, Income Based Job Seeker’s Allowance, Child Tax Credit (but not in receipt of Working Families Tax Credit at the same time) or Guarantee element of State Pension Credit.
Please note that claims can only be backdated to the point that the FSM application was made. This is because there is a legal requirement for a request to be made before a FSM can be provided. You will not be permitted to claim reimbursement for meals that were paid for in a previous term where the evidence to confirm entitlement would have been available at that time but was not provided.
Proof of payment will be required to process your claim and should be submitted directly to the school, who is responsible for handling your claim. Any reimbursement will be paid directly via your child’s school.
